Chocolate Me! - Pretty Good Read

The boy is teased for looking different than the other kids. His skin is darker, his hair curlier. He tells his mother he wishes he could be more like everyone else. And she helps him to see how beautiful he really, truly is.

For years before they both achieved acclaim in their respective professions, good friends Taye Diggs and Shane W. Evans wanted to collaborate on Chocolate Me!, a book based on experiences of feeling different and trying to fit in as kids. Now, both men are fathers and see more than ever the need for a picture book that encourages all people, especially kids, to love themselves.

As found on The Max Reddick Experience

Below the authors discuss their book:

Pretty Awesome Women

Although the intent of Pretty Dark Girl is to celebrate women with dark skin, I had to share this as I found it so endearing. This was found on the tumblr PIECES OF ME

I never get tired of this photo.
Ella Fitzgerald was not allowed to play at Mocambo because of her race. Then, one of Ella’s biggest fans made a telephone call that quite possibly changed the path of her career for good. Here, Ella tells the story of how Marilyn Monroe changed her life:
“I owe Marilyn Monroe a real debt… she personally called the owner of the Mocambo, and told him she wanted me booked immediately, and if he would do it, she would take a front table every night. She told him – and it was true, due to Marilyn’s superstar status – that the press would go wild. The owner said yes, and Marilyn was there, front table, every night. The press went overboard. After that, I never had to play a small jazz club again. She was an unusual woman – a little ahead of her times. And she didn’t know it.”

Pretty Dark Girl - Danielle Evans

So I have not watched America's Next Top Model in forever, but I discover the beautiful, chocolatey Danielle Evans while looking for a pic for another post. I was directed like Alice down the rabbit hole that is Tumblr to this page.

Not only is she beautiful, she has amazing flawless skin and based on her pics, there is no wonder why she was the winner of America's Next Top Model. And from what I've seen through the net, she was one of the favourite winners on ANTM. Check out more pics and someone's tribute video after the jump.

Kelly Rowland - Dirty Laundry | PDG Music

The latest single by the beautiful dark skin singer, Kelly Rowland. It shows you never know what is going on in someone's life. I'm happy that she got pass an abusive situation. The arrangement is divine and the lyrics make me want to give her a big hug.

Take a listen below:

The sad thing is this could happen to a lot of dark skin women. When a woman doesn't believe that she is beautiful and worthy of a good relationship, she will accept abusive men into her life. Then there is the fact that the abuser will say things like

"No one will love you"
"I'm the only one who can love you"

She will believe him because that is the same thing she is saying to herself. The truth is we are all beautiful and we are worthy of real, soul-shaking love.

Virtual hugs to all

An Oversimplification of Her Beauty

This looks so interesting, I hope I get a chance to see it. According to IMDB, the film is:
A quixotic artist hypothesizes about why he feels bad when a mystery girl stands him up. The event prompts him to ask: what's the content of a momentary feeling? Is it the sum of your experiences? And perhaps more importantly, are your experiences the sum of you?
